Lip lines are a common sign of aging that we treat at our Eugene medical spa. These vertical lines above the upper lip (also known as “lipstick lines” or “smoker’s lines”) may appear due to natural volume loss, repetitive muscle movement, sun damage, or genetics—often all of the above! Many patients are eager to treat lip lines as they can cause lipstick to feather and can also significantly age your appearance.
At Ziba Medical Spa, we offer several highly effective treatments to smooth and soften lip lines, and explain our top three below.
Laser Resurfacing: Rebuild your skin from within
Laser resurfacing is the strongest way to address lip lines because it improves the skin’s surface texture and stimulates deeper collagen production. We use fractional CO2 laser resurfacing to precisely target and vaporize damaged skin cells around the lips, and as the skin heals, it becomes smoother, firmer, and more evenly toned. Simultaneously, the laser energy encourages your skin to regenerate from within, adding new collagen layers to help naturally “fill in” lines from below the surface of your skin over the course of a few weeks.
Most patients see significant results after one treatment, though deeper lines may benefit from a second session. While there is some social downtime involved—typically a few days to a week—this investment pays off with long-lasting improvements in skin quality.
Filler: Restore lost volume and structure
Dermal fillers are an excellent lip line treatment that offers immediate results and requires no downtime. We inject a hyaluronic acid-based filler just beneath the skin to plump the tissue and restore youthful structure to the area. Once placed, the additional volume under the skin effectively lifts and softens lip lines.
Our advanced injection techniques ensure the filler is placed precisely where it’s needed to smooth lip lines without adding unwanted bulk or altering your natural lip shape. We also use softer, more flexible fillers in this delicate area to allow for natural movement and avoid stiffness.
Results are immediate and can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months, depending on the product used and your body’s natural metabolism.

Botox: Soften expression lines
Botox® is best known for smoothing forehead lines and crow’s feet, but it’s also incredibly effective for treating dynamic lip lines (those that deepen when you purse your lips, drink from a straw, or speak).
Our injectors strategically place a very small amount of Botox in the upper lip to relax the tiny muscles that create these expression-based wrinkles. This reduces the repetitive folding of the skin, allowing it to stay smoother over time.
We take a conservative approach to Botox in the upper lip to ensure you retain full function and a natural-looking smile. You’ll still be able to speak, eat, and express yourself normally, just without the creasing! Results begin to appear in 10-14 days and typically last about 3 to 4 months.
Why a combination approach often works best
While each treatment is effective on its own, we may recommend more than one treatment type or combining all three to tackle lip lines from every angle for the most natural and comprehensive results:
- Laser resurfacing improves skin texture and firmness
- Filler restores volume and support
- Botox prevents further creasing from muscle movement
